Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders: Meet Terrell Fletcher

February 2, 2023 Vicki Stanford

At The Ken Blanchard Companies®, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. Providing access to future generations of leaders is no exception. Blanchard Institute exists to prepare, educate, and equip emerging leaders worldwide to take charge of their lives by developing accountability, confidence, and a strong belief in themselves so they can take the initiative to achieve their dreams. I had the privilege of connecting with Blanchard Institute’s new executive director, Terrell Fletcher, to talk about his vision to grow a program dedicated to enabling future leaders to overcome barriers and persevere against life’s inevitable challenges—and to lead others to do the same.

Terrell, tell us a little bit about your new role as executive director of Blanchard Institute.

Honestly, the way I look at it is beyond budgets, products, and fundraising. This role is about highlighting the Blanchard legacy and the ways the Blanchard family has contributed to our global community throughout the years. My role is to ensure that our offerings highlight not only the products but also the heart of the Blanchard family and The Ken Blanchard Companies. Our scholarships and donor-sponsored training provide young people and their support systems with tools to level the playing field. We give away the best of who we are and provide these services to anyone who wants them. I have been granted the opportunity to elevate that purpose.

How has your experience prepared you for this role?

Prior to coming to Blanchard Institute, I served as an executive director for another company and also as a program manager at Amazon, LLC. But nothing has prepared me for this position more than my experience serving as a community faith leader at the City of Hope International Churches, a nonprofit organization and faith institution. Nonprofit work is largely a labor of love and caring for people. In this space, one leads with giving versus receiving. Blanchard Institute will benefit from my nearly 20 years of leading with service. Every young person, parent, donor, or other person with interest will feel our ‘community first’ mentality.

Blanchard Institute has had such a profound impact on future leaders. What excites you most about the work the Institute is doing? What makes Blanchard Institute different from other options out there?

As far as leadership tools are concerned, Blanchard Institute, in partnership with The Ken Blanchard Companies, is at the top of the industry. We have cutting-edge ideas and technology and have been trusted by some of the most profitable companies in the world to develop and sharpen their leaders. This same championship level of product and delivery excellence will be given away, through our programs, to future leaders along with the people that support them. We have not watered down our products to do this, nor have we created a skinny version to save costs. We are sharing our high quality leadership tools in full bloom! To say it another way, we are giving away what we do best because we believe in the next generation of leaders. I am excited because I get to work with some of the most talented people in the industry and with a visionary leader, Scott Blanchard, who is on fire for Blanchard Institute to get the news out to the world.
